Welcome to Computing at St John’s.
Computing Curriculum Intent
At St John’s, we deliver a high-quality computing curriculum through the Teach Computing scheme, developed by the National Centre for Computing Education and supported by the Department for Education. The scheme is fully aligned with the National Curriculum for Computing and provides clear progression in knowledge, skills and understanding. Our intent is to equip pupils with the knowledge, creativity and resilience to become confident, responsible and competent users and creators of technology. In an increasingly digital world, computing plays a vital role in preparing children for their future education, employment and participation in society.
A Knowledge-Rich and Progressive Curriculum
The Teach Computing scheme ensures progression across the three strands of the National Curriculum:
- Computer Science
- Information Technology
- Digital Literacy
Concepts are revisited and built upon over time, enabling pupils to deepen understanding and make connections between prior and new learning. Technical vocabulary is explicitly taught and reinforced to build confidence and precision.
Enabling Environment and Resources
Our dedicated computer suite provides pupils with regular access to desktop computers, allowing them to develop programming, typing and research skills in a focused environment. In addition, access to iPads across the school enhances flexibility and creativity, enabling pupils to apply computing skills across the curriculum through photography, video creation, research, data handling and collaborative work.
This blend of fixed and portable technology ensures pupils experience a broad range of hardware and software, supporting both discrete computing lessons and meaningful cross-curricular application.
