Welcome to Art & Design at St John’s.
Art Curriculum Intent
At St Johns our art curriculum aims to engage, inspire, and equip students with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to create, appreciate, and critically evaluate art while fostering personal, cultural, and social development. Our Curriculum focus on making art accessible to all students, regardless of ability, culture background or culture and aims to develop creativity imagination and practical skills. Students are encouraged to explore a variety of materials, techniques and artistic styles while learning about key artists and their impact. The curriculum also emphasized personal growth, including independence, resilience, self-reflection and confidence. As a school we follow the scheme CUSP which ensures that every child has the opportunity to engage with a diverse range of materials, techniques, and artistic traditions, enriching their artistic vocabulary and understanding. The curriculum is sequenced to build on prior knowledge and skills, with each unit designed to progressively challenge students and deepen their understanding. Timetabling includes dedicated art and design sessions, ensuring sufficient time for exploration, creativity, and reflection on artistic processes.
